Pulled screaming into the 21st century...

My cell phone died this weekend. It was a good phone - you could make and receive calls with it - what more could one want?? While I always carry my phone with me, not many people have the number and I rarely use it. I want it so that if anyone I've given the number to as an emergency contact, like Thomas' school, can reach me when they need me. We have a pathetic plan with 100 minutes per month (that's for both mine AND Gary's phones together!) and I don't think we've ever gone above our allotted minutes!lol

Anyhow, I go in and I want the most basic flip phone I can find. It just so happens that our contract with the cell phone company had expired and if I renew it, I can get a free phone, up to a value of $250. Well, not seeing any reason why I'd leave money on the table for Megalocorp, I pick the $249 flip phone. If I can figure it out, I think this phone might cook breakfast for us!lol Really, what the heck is one supposed to do with a phone that's a camera and an MP3 player amongst other things...it has Bluetooth as well... not the slightest clue what that is except that I know our laptop has one and a car we looked at this weekend had it too!!

So, I spent a good part of my day today redoing my cell phone book and such. And you know what, picking the right song for your ringer is really quite a stressful process!!!lol Thankfully, I don't really know how to download anything other than the ringtones already on the phone so I picked from that. Being the nerd I am, when the songs I picked come on, I'm more likely to just sing along than answer the call - I'm really that dumb that it'll take a few seconds for me to realize it's my phone ringing!!lol So, what great tidbits did I pick. Well, when Gary calls me, the ever so fabulous 70s hit "Daddy Cool" will play...anyone remember that? I picked it for no other reason than I remember liking it as a kid... probably haven't heard it for 30 years until today!!lol A regular call will give you "I walk the line" in honour of my father forcing me to listen to Johnny Cash incessantly as a kid and C3PO will kindly remind me to pick up my messages... can't find anything else that appeals at the moment. I will figure out how to download songs so I can pick anything... oh, the pressure... so, what do ya'll have as a ring tone if you have a song? BTW, I'm gonna have a friend show me how to text - yeah, I've never once sent a text message to anyone...if you have my cell phone number and know how to text - send me a message!!lol Oh, one annoying thing though. Why can't these companies ever use the same type of plug/battery, etc. for more than one model? My old phone was a Samsung, so is the new one, but I had to buy a new car charger. When I bought my Nikon D80 camera, the charger wasn't compatible with my other 2 Nikon chargers...c'mon, give us folks a break, how many chargers are we supposed to keep around and figure out what to do with!!lol Yeah, kicking and screaming, I'm being pulled into this century!

Great post! You mentioned so many things that made me LOL!

I have 'Be Our Guest' from Disney's 'Beauty and the Beast' as my ringtone. It's great right now as my niece and I are heading there in 3 more sleeps! :o)

I'm with you when it comes to chargers. Ugh....never compatable! I don't get it other than it's another ploy to get us to buy more stuff.

Have fun with your new phone! Gotta love new toys!

Julie you are so funny! I have "hips don't lie" on my phone and most of the time I'd rather listen to it than answer it!
